Applying for credit with Fido is simple, secure, and fully digital. Everything can be completed directly in the Fido App, from registration to receiving your funds.
Step 1: Register Your Fido Account
Getting started is easy:
- Download the Fido App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Register using your South African mobile number.
- Enter the One-Time Password (OTP) sent to your phone to verify your number.
- Create a secure 4-digit PIN that you'll use whenever you log in to your account.
Once registration is complete, you can begin the verification process.
Step 2: Verify Your Identity
To keep your account secure and comply with South African regulations, you'll need to complete identity verification.
You'll be asked to:
- Upload your valid South African ID
- Take a live selfie
- Provide your residential address
- Grant the required app permissions
- Complete a short customer survey
As part of verification, Fido performs several checks to confirm your identity and validate your information.
Step 3: Complete Your Affordability Assessment
Before a credit can be approved, South African regulations require an affordability assessment.
To complete this step:
- Connect your bank account securely through the Fido App.
- Submit your recent banking information or bank statements as requested.
- Allow the system to assess your income and existing financial obligations.
This process helps determine whether the requested credit is affordable and responsible for your financial situation.
Step 4: Review Your Credit Offer
If your application is approved:
- You'll receive a credit offer in the Fido App.
- Select the amount you would like to borrow.
- Carefully review the fees, repayment amount, repayment date, and credit terms.
- Read and accept the credit agreement and terms and conditions.
We encourage all customers to review the agreement carefully before accepting any credit offer.
Step 5: Authorize Repayment and Receive Your Funds

Before funds can be disbursed:
- You must complete the required DebiCheck authorisation through your banking app.
- The bank account used for repayment and disbursement must be registered in your own name.
Once the authorization is successful, your funds will be transferred directly to your bank account.

Remember that the only way to apply for credit is through the Fido App (it's absolutely free). This process cannot be influenced by any individual. You should never pay money to anyone under any circumstances to get credit with Fido. Fido will never ask for any form of cash deposit before processing your credit application.
