How do I verify my Fido Account?

Verifying your account is an important step that helps us confirm your identity, assess affordability, and ensure compliance with South African lending regulations. The process is quick and completed directly in the Fido App.

Step 1: Download the Fido App and Register

To get started:

  1. Download the Fido App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  2. Register using your South African mobile number.
  3. Enter the One-Time Password (OTP) sent to your phone to verify your number.

Once your number is verified, you can proceed with account verification.

Step 2: Complete Identity Verification

To verify your identity, you will be asked to:

  • Upload your South African ID document
  • Take a live selfie for identity verification
  • Enter your residential address
  • Grant the required app permissions, including camera, location, contacts, and SMS access

As part of the verification process, Fido securely performs several checks, including:

  • Verification of your ID details
  • Matching your selfie against your ID photo
  • Confirmation that you are at least 18 years old
  • Mobile number validation
  • Credit bureau checks

Step 3: Complete the Customer Survey

After your identity has been verified, you will be asked to complete a short survey.

This includes information such as:

  • Employment status
  • Income range
  • Other relevant financial details

The information provided helps us assess your eligibility and affordability.

Step 4: Affordability Assessment

In line with South African lending regulations, Fido conducts an affordability assessment before any credit can be approved.

To complete this step:

  • Connect your bank account securely through TruID
  • Submit your recent bank statements (3 months) for review

Our system then evaluates factors such as:

  • Verified income
  • Income source
  • Existing financial obligations
  • Overall affordability

Based on the assessment, your application will either be approved or declined.

Step 5: Review Your Offer and Receive Funds

If your affordability assessment is approved:

  • You'll receive a credit offer in the Fido App.
  • Review the credit amount, fees, repayment terms, and conditions.
  • Accept the offer if you're happy to proceed.

Once accepted, the funds will be transferred directly to your bank account.
